What’s a healthy campaign configuration?

Healthy campaigns should have an amount of traffic that is realistic for the given rankings the listing currently has.

This can be accomplished via considering your current position and setting traffic numbers realistically.

For instance, if all of your keywords are below rank 15 or 20, it wouldn't make sense for those listings to get 20 visits a day at rank 15 or 20.  Google knows this.  In such a case your traffic should be set very low, or you should experiment with manual searches for higher ranking terms.

Example:

You are ranking at position 25 for 'ac repair phoenix'... with a listing called Bob's HVAC Service Phoenix.

So you open google maps and go to an area you want to rank and you search 'ac repair phoenix mesa' which ranks at position 9, so you add this keyword.

Then you're on broadway so you try 'ac repair phoenix broadway' and rank position 5, so you add this keyword.

Now you set your daily clicks to 10 per day and you have a list of keywords that looks like

  • ac repair phoenix (money keyword)
  • phoenix ac repair (money keyword)
  • phoenix ac repair broadway (higher ranking keyword that has your target keyword in it)
  • ac repair phoenix mesa (higher ranking keyword that has your target keyword in it)
  • ac repair phoenix Bob's (higher ranking partial brand, minimizing the number of extra words)
  • bob's hvac ac repair (targeting the ac repair term with a higher position)
  • ac repair

As an example, the above would look like more natural traffic than something like:

  • ac repair phoenix (ranking position 25)
  • phoenix ac repair (ranking position 22)
  • ac repair (ranking position 40)

With 20 daily clicks.

Manual searches and using the minimum number of additional words to increase relevancy are key.
